Based off of Yoshichi Shimada's best selling novel. A Japanese period piece in the manner of Always - Sunset on Third Street or The Professor and His Beloved Equation.
What you do have in Granny Gabai is a very touching story about a boy and his grandmother. The grandmother is quite poor, but is able to provide a rich life for Akihiro by imparting her rational sensibilities, as well as a quirkiness that is truly unique. One of the her favorite bits of wisdom she liked to impart on Akihiro was, “Have confidence in yourself, for we have been poor for generations.”
Akihiro is sent to live with his grandmother, because his mother could not afford to take care of two sons & work at the same time. When Akihiro arrives at his grandmother’s house, he immediately encounters Granny’s odd spendthrift ways!
